Day WorkshopsSalmon Skin Leather Tanning
with Willow Lohr
24 March 9.30am - 4.30pm
Learn to tan salmon skin into strong fish skin leather. Salmon and other fish skins are often considered to be a waste material, but native people have utilised this unique product since prehistoric times for making a strong and unusual leather, which can be made into boots, clothing and beautiful objects. Tanning fish skins is an elusive skill. During this workshop you will learn how to tan your own salmon skin into lovely soft leather. You will use traditional simple hand tools and natural products, so that you can continue your newfound skill at home. If time permits we may also start sewing a pouch with your newly tanned salmon skin.
For all day events, participants should book directly with the trainer.
